The beauty of the landscape and the charm of history, enjoying the tastes of tradition: the Chianti region takes you to cities known worldide as the symbol of Tuscan art and culture. It is history, which can be felt in every corner and every stone, that leads you to the immutable and eternal charm of Tuscan art cities. Here, life still flows to a human pace and monuments become accomplices in a continual seduction of the sense. The beautiful medieval city of Siena is a treasure trove of monuments and buildings that have earned it the recognition of the "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO. Among these treasures, certainly the best known is the Piazza del Campo, a "shell" where the famous "palio" is held in summer every year among the district of the town. Here stands the Palazzo Comunale (1298), with the Torre del Mangia (1325) dominating it. It is impossible not to get lost among the picturesque streets full of life and beautiful building and churches, above all the cathedral, which is one of the highest artistic expression of the Middle Ages.
Leaving Siena behind, you will move towards the fortified village of Monteriggioni, built in the 13th century and protected by walls that are still intact, with eleven towers and a centre to be enjoyed on foot. To get there will be driven on a panoramic road that will let you enjoy the Chianti countryside with its vineyards and olive groves.
The typical products and wines of Chianti will be offered during a leisurely lunch in a country estate located a short distance away and sourranded by the typical vegetation of the region.
Following lunch, a tasting of fine Chianti and Vernaccia wines, under the guidance, explanations and amusing anecdotes of our guest.
Then a short trip will take you to the small but precious centre of San Gimignano, the "Manhattan of the Middle Ages", another UNESCO World Heritage Site, an excellent example of medieval urban planning characterized by numerous towers that make it unique in the beautiful surraunding countryside. This is where Vernaccia wine is produced, but this is not the only thing to make the place famous and appreciated: a pleasant stroll through the streets of the centre reveals artistic gems, such as the Duomo, the Palazzo del Podestà , the Church of St. Augustine and Piazza della Cisterna.
You will find it hard to leave this town, but you will be rewarded with one of the most spectacular architectural works in the world: Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa, where the famous Leaning Tower, the magnificent Bapstistery, the beautiful Cathedral and the Monumental Graveyard, indisputable masterpieces of Romanesque architecture built between the 12th and the 13th century, have been awarded the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Their external magnificence could not but be matched by the immense value of the artistic works that are haused in them.
